At the helm is Emmy-Award-nominated photojournalist Bjoern Kils -- a Merchant Mariner Master Captain with extensive experience operating boats in and around New York Harbor. As a Divemaster he explored many shipwrecks in the Baltic sea and along the east-coast. He spent many years in broadcast television as cameraman, satellite truck operator and video editor and will gladly consult with you on any project. Bjoern is a FAA Part 107 certified drone pilot and a member of the Marine Society of the City of New York, the USCG Harbor Operations, Navigation and Safety Committee, the Passenger Vessel Subcommittee and the Search and Rescue Council. He is a N.J. State Commissioner for the Maritime Pilots and Docking Pilots and serves on the N.J.M.P.D.P.C. Incident Investigation Committee.
Captain Eric is New York Media Boat’s Director of Operations. He’s been an integral part of the NYMB crew for 12 years. Crewing on commercial vessels and private yachts, Eric brings much experience running different types of ships. He graduated with a degree in National Security, and is a USCG licensed Master Captain and FAA Part 107 certified drone pilot. Eric grew up and lives along the Jersey Shore.
Captain Bryant is a USCG licensed Master Captain and grew up in the Adirondacks, in upstate New York. After spending a decade traveling the world as a musician, he found his home on the water in New York Harbor. Bryant has worked in hospitality, maritime management and captained various vessels. He loves to take first timers out on the water, and giving restaurant recommendations to all the gems he has found in Manhattan.
Captain Mack was born and raised in Miami, FL. He has spent the past few years sailing in New York Harbor, the Caribbean, and the North Atlantic Ocean. He loves a slow, long distance journey, either on the water via sailboat or over land on his motorcycle. Mack is a USCG licensed Master Captain and can’t wait to share his love of New York Harbor with visitors and locals alike.
Captain John is a first responder specializing in maritime search and rescue. He’s a USCG licensed Master Captain and expert in tactical boat handling. John has patrolled New York Harbor for decades and he is an avid recreational boater, who loves navigating the Jersey Shore, Moriches Bay, and the east end of Long Island.
Kristina Fiore is a journalist whose byline has appeared in ABC News, Newsday, New Jersey Monthly, and other newspapers and magazines. She’s a member of the National Association of Science Writers and at New York Media Boat, she manages social media, blogging, and content strategy. She’ll gladly chase the story far out to sea.
