At the helm is Emmy-Award-nominated photojournalist Bjoern Kils — a U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain with extensive experience operating boats in New York Harbor. He holds the TWIC Card issued by the Department of Homeland Security and is a Rescue Diver and Divemaster. Bjoern has worked many years in broadcast television as cameraman, editor, and satellite truck operator. He will gladly consult with you on any project.

Captain Eric has run our boats for four seasons. Crewing on commercial vessels and private yachts, he brings much experience operating different types of ships. Eric graduated with a degree in National Security, holds an FCC Radio Operators license, TWIC card, and is a U.S. Coast Guard Master Captain. He grew up along the Jersey Shore, working the summers on fishing boats.

Captain Ken has served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 18 years. He’s a Federal Boarding Officer, Search and Rescue specialist and expert in tactical boat operations. Ken has sailed the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, and the Mediterranean, South China, Bering, and Caribbean Seas. He served with the Harry S. Truman battle group in 2003 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

Captain Joel is a USCG licensed mariner and water safety instructor. He has a degree in marine biology from Rutgers University, has worked as a lifeguard, and is a PADI certified Rescue Diver. Joel has been boating in New York Harbor for more than 20 years and his previous work experience also includes building customer relations and management of underwater salvage operations.

Captain Matt operates our boats on many special assignments. He's a SUNY Maritime Cadet and when on scene, Matt handles boat-to-boat communication, monitors navigation systems, and coordinates ship traffic. He has worked on commercial vessels and private yachts.

Kristina Fiore is a journalist whose byline has appeared in ABC News, Newsday, New Jersey Monthly, Earth Magazine, and other newspapers and magazines. She’s a member of the National Association of Science Writers and the Association for Health Care Journalists. At New York Media Boat, she manages social media, blogging, and content strategy.
